The New Rookie QB's
Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, and Pat White were some of the major quarterbacks taken in this years draft. In my opinion these players are being asked too much of to save their team. Lets breakdown the scenerios for each player and their team:
Matthew Stafford - If the Detroit Lions make the decision to start Matthew Stafford he will end up the next David Carr (I use him as an example because I'm from Houston) and becoming traumatized at sitting in the pocket for 3 seconds. He obviously shows adequate arm strength but he relies on it way too much. If you look at his highlights it shows all his recievers bailing him out by GOING UP TO GET THE BALL. His accuracy still has to be proven and in the NFL accuracy reigns supreme over arm strength
Mark Sanchez - Leadership, Charisma, USC Stud, these are the qualities people place on this man yet he hasnt thrown a NFL pass. As soon as he doesnt come out the gates smoking people will rip these from him. The accuracy he showed as USC was impressive but when you have Joe Mcknight and C.J. Gable in the backfield with you. When 8 players are in the box it is easy to throw into holes in the defense. He will not have these type of weapons in New York and will quickly find out it doesnt take 8 defenders to stop Thomas Jones. We will see his leadership skills tested when he gets a rocky start out there in New York.
Josh Freeman - Really the most questionable amongst the elite quarterbacks this year. Has the size at 6'6 to see over the blitz and the weight at 248 lbs. to shake off defenders. However he is not a consistent player which is the most important feature a quarterback must have. If the Buccaneers can groom and bring him along slowly the guy has potential. To be a consistent starter that is.....not anything great.
Pat White - Running back , Quarterback, Wide Reciever? Any place could be a good fit for Pat White and this is why the Dolphins drafted him. I must say I am very anxious to see how he is worked into the Wildcat offense and the new dimension he brings now that Ronnie Brown won't be the main throwing threat in it. Of all the QB's Pat is the most underrated as he is the only one to have won 4 bowl games in 4 years. He could end up being the sleeper QB that may end up in the playoffs before the other 3.
